Every month Mbalizi Hospital used to run two remote clinics by air. Usually a nurse, a dental assistant a clinical officer and a doctor go. We are flown by an SIL/MAF pilot in the new SIL plane. One clinic is in a village called Gua near lake Rukwa, the other is called Lualage. In both cases it would be a journey of 8-10 hours or more to get to our hospital, as buses do not access such remote places and most locals do not have their own transport. The cost of such a trip is beyond most villagers. They are walk in, first come first served clinics. Usually we see 30-50 patients and then fly home.
This service has been on hold for over a year due to lack of a pilot.
